Project Terrain
Generative AI Applied to Physical Design — Cross-Domain AI Thinking
Challenge
A purpose-built children's play structure was required: aesthetically distinctive, structurally appropriate for site constraints, with a 5–7 year developmental horizon. Traditional custom architecture exceeded budget by 3–4×; catalogue products offered no differentiation.
AI Solution Applied
Executed a structured generative design process using AI at every phase: concept generation (Midjourney, ~200 variants across 8 rounds), structural refinement with engineering constraints, material specification using comparative AI analysis, and AI-assisted construction documentation.
Business Outcome
A fully realised bespoke structure delivered within cost parameters that traditional custom design would have exceeded by 3–4×, with aesthetic and functional qualities that catalogue products could not match. The project also produced a replicable design methodology.
Enterprise Relevance
Positioned as a proof of mindset: does this practitioner think in AI-native terms as a default mode — across domains, for problems where AI was not the obvious choice? This is the evidence behind the AI Mindset methodology.
