AI-Augmented Discovery - 4–8× Faster Application Understanding
The Challenge
A Nordic enterprise operating a multi-site platform across 20 legacy Java/J2EE applications on end-of-life frameworks needed to understand its complete technical estate before committing to a modernisation programme. A traditional manual assessment had been estimated at 8–14 weeks.
What I Built / Delivered
Designed and applied the AI Modernization Framework to the full legacy codebase: AI-augmented discovery with mandatory expert validation. Mapped 187 API endpoints and 98 service connections across all 20 applications. Authored a prioritised risk register and DDD-based cloud-native target architecture. Validated all AI-generated findings against source code.
The Outcome
Understanding how an application works is now 4–8× faster depending on application size. Complete discovery delivered in 3 weeks versus an 8–14 week traditional estimate, with 100% of source files scanned across the entire legacy estate. Zero misleading claims delivered to the client.
Why This Matters
The AI Modernization Framework in its purest form: AI-augmented analysis that compresses months into weeks while maintaining the rigour of expert human validation. The speed is not the point. The point is that analysis quality did not degrade with the compression.
